Firefighters in Garland battled flames on an afternoon with triple digit temperatures on Saturday.
No one was home when the fire broke out in the 4800 block of Vera Cruz around 4:00 p.m. No one was injured in the fire.
Garland Fire Dept. spokesperson Merrill J. Balanciere said the homeowner was gone at the time.
The house's garage had the heaviest damage although the fire traveled to the second floor.
Balanciere also said the fire does not appear to have been intentionally set. The cause is under investigation.
30 firefighters fought the fire as temperatures soared higher than 100 degrees.
"One of the factors is just the heat out here," Merrill J. Balanciere said. "Because when it's hot like this, you've got 60 pounds of gear on. The firefighters are out here and it kinda takes a little toll on you."
