Ex-Detroit Mayor's Father Reports to North Texas Prison

The father of ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has reported to a Texas prison to start serving a 15-month sentence in a corruption case that led to a 28-year sentence for his son.

A jury in March found Bernard Kilpatrick guilty of a tax crime, while acquitting him or failing to agree on other charges.

U.S. District Judge Nancy Edmunds sentenced the father Oct. 19. WXYZ-TV says that 72-year-old Bernard Kilpatrick surrendered Tuesday.

The Detroit News says he's being housed at the Federal Correctional Institution, Seagoville. The U.S government describes itself as a "low-security" prison for men.

The prison is about 15 miles southeast of Dallas. Kwame Kilpatrick's wife and children live in suburban Dallas.
