Ted Cruz Backs American Airlines and Other Carriers in Longstanding Dispute With Gulf Airlines

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Ted Cruz is looking to give a bit of lift to Fort Worth-based American Airlines and other major carriers in a high-stakes dispute with international rivals.The Texas Republican this week urged the Trump administration to take action on the big airlines' longstanding complaint that three state-owned carriers in the Middle East are using subsidies from their home countries to box out the competition.He blasted the foreign carriers for "blatant disregard" of what are known as "open skies" agreements."Failing to enforce our trade agreements harms American companies, workers communities and consumers, all of whom these agreements were intended to protect," Cruz wrote on Monday to the secretaries of transportation, commerce and state.  Continue reading...
