Investigators said then men went into the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center through the loading dock at about 4:20 a.m.

They unplugged the ATM and moved it about 25 feet before the alarm went off. The men left the ATM and fled.

In their escape the men tried to crash a blue Chevrolet van, which police said was stolen, through a security gate. The van was damaged in the crash and police said the people inside ran from the scene.

Police said they will review surveillance camera footage from a camera positioned close to where the van was abandoned.

Investigators have not said if the attempted theft is connected to a number of other recent attempted ATM thefts.
