One person is in custody after an undercover, plain-clothed Dallas police officer was shot in the leg during a gun battle that left another person dead Friday morning, police say.
The officer was hospitalized following the shooting but has since been discharged from Baylor University Medical Center and sent home.
Dallas police have released few details around the shooting, but did confirm that officers were dispatched at 5:20 a.m. to an "armed encounter" in the 4000 block of North Jim Miller Road.
Dallas police said the first officer to respond to the call was a plain-clothed, undercover officer who confronted two people. Moments later, there was an exchange of gunfire where the officer was injured and one of the others was fatally wounded.
The second person ran from the encounter but was later found by police and taken into custody, police said.
Dallas police have not yet said what led to the exchange of gunfire between the officer and at least one of the two people, but they did confirm weapons were found on both people confronted by the officer.
Military Parkway was shut down in the area of Jim Miller Road due to the ongoing investigation.
