Consumers Can Find Great Deals in April

You may already have your tax refund in hand and retailers know that.

So at this time of year, you’ll see some big discounts.

Here are some of the deals you can expect to see this April:

  • Vacuum Cleaners - Last year's models typically go on sale in April to make room for the new ones due out in June.
  • Consignment Shops – In Spring, they're overflowing as folks do their Spring cleaning. You can score great deals.
  • Spring Clothing – Spring lines have been in stores for two months so retailers start slashing prices in April 15 to 30 percent. The 50 percent off clothing deals come around Mother's Day.
  • Summer Air Travel Deals – They’re plentiful in April. Remember most sales run Tuesday through Thursday. Some industry analysts say the best time to buy is on a Tuesday at 3 p.m. CST. Travel on a Tuesday or Wednesday and save even more.

If you plan to travel by air, expect to sacrifice comfort. Airplane seats are getting smaller. Americans are getting bigger and the senate has decided the issue is none of its business.

The U.S. Senate rejected a bill that would have required the Federal Aviation Administration to set seat size standards. The bill would have also required airlines to post the size of their seats on their websites so consumers could consider that information when buying tickets.

The vote was straight down party lines. Most Democrats voted for it. Most Republicans voted against it. Airlines accused Congress of trying to regulate the industry.
