Clerk Charged After Girl Dies in Crash

A convenience store clerk is accused of selling alcohol to minors before the teens were in a wreck in Denton that killed a girl.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission says a clerk was arrested Wednesday on a misdemeanor charge of selling alcohol to a minor.

Police say a 14-year-old boy who'd been drinking wrecked his family's SUV early Sunday in an accident that killed his 14-year-old girlfriend, Valeria Rodriguez of Arlington.

Police say the couple and a 16-year-old boy apparently were running away to Oklahoma. The boyfriend was detained on a juvenile charge of intoxication manslaughter.

TABC spokesman Charlie Cloud said Wednesday that the clerk originally refused to sell to the teens, then allegedly told the youths to return later, after dark, and he sold them booze.
