Welcome home, or second home, Mike Modano.

The all-time Dallas Stars star probably has been back in the area since just after the end of the NHL season but he appears on the high-profile scene this weekend when he participates in the Reebok 2011 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game, a fundraiser for the Heroes Foundation and The Mike Modano Foundation.

Mark Cuban again will hit the fundraising diamond only this time he’ll bring the Larry O’Brien NBA championship trophy with him.

Other participants include Dallas Cowboys of today and yesterday — Dez Bryant, Martellus Bennett, Bradie James, and Everson Walls — a few TV and movie types in Donald Faison, Geoff Stults, and Dave Annable, plus “American Idol runner-up David Archuleta will sign during the seventh-inning stretch because nothing says “hero” like an “American Idol” runner-up.

The two-day event takes place July 8 and 9 at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, but you’re invited only to the Saturday happenings. Check-in and training camp — huh? — occur from 9:30 a.m.-noon Friday, and that’s the type of training camp professional athletes probably would want for real.

Game-day events Saturday include gates opening at 2:30 p.m., the Whataburger Heroes Special Olympics All-Star Softball Game at 3 p.m., the Baylor Medical Center at Frisco Celebrity Home Run Derby at 4 p.m., and the main event at 6 p.m. A fireworks show after the game wraps up the whole shebang.

Wonder what the biggest focus of attention might be [coutrophygh].
