Blocked Line Causes 50K Gallons of Sewage to Spill in Burleson

Authorities said a blocked line caused more than 50,000 gallons of sewage to spill in Burleson Wednesday afternoon. [[397768381,C]]

Burleson city officials said a blockage in the sewer collection line caused the spill in the 600 block of Northeast Alsbury Boulevard just before 12:45 p.m.

Officials estimated that more than 50,000 gallons of sewage spilled before the issue was fixed at about 1:30 p.m. The spill was cleaned and the sewage line was cleared via water jetting and will be evaluated for additional maintenance.

City officials said there is no threat to the public water supply, but they will increase monitoring as a precaution.

The public should avoid contact with waste material, soil and water in the area potentially affected by the spill — from the location of the spill to a rock damn nearly 2,000 feet downstream.

Anyone using private water supply wells within a half mile of the affected area should use only water that has been distilled or boiled for at least one minute.
