AT&T partnered up with two community organizations to help North Texans who are homeless or facing other hardships get back on their feet.
The Dallas-based company hosted 30 people at its Career Aware Day, a daylong workshop focused on job training.
At the end of the day, participants had an opportunity to submit a resume and profile to AT&T's pool of job applicants.
"This program demystifies corporate America for someone who has been chronically unemployed recently and you start to feel like nothing is going to happen for you," said Julie Howard, AT&T staffing associate director.
At the end of the session, participants received a free cellphone with 100 minutes so they can be contacted for an interview.
Nonprofit organizations Citysquare and Back on My Feet helped coordinate Career Aware Day.
Gloria Zamora, 48, participated in Tuesday's workshop. At 13 years old, she was arrested on arson charges and later became addicted to heroin and went to prison. When she got out, she faced homelessness.

Zamora said she is picking up her life.
"Now I have an apartment, going through a temp agency," she said.
