The Texas Rangers are one step closer to getting their new ballpark on the ballot in Arlington.
The Arlington City Council voted 8-to-0 in favor of the stadium during a meeting Tuesday night.
The measure needs to pass another council vote on Aug. 9, before Arlington voters make the ultimate decision in November.
The Texas Rangers plan to split the $1 billion price tag with the city. That would mean a new half-cent sales tax, along with hotel and rental car taxes.
The new ballpark and related infrastructure is estimated to cost about $1 billion, with the city and the Rangers splitting the cost with the city's burden capped at $500 million.
