Affidavit Names New Suspect in Puppy Torture Case

Man identified as Little R sought by police

Another name has surfaced in connection with the torture and death of the puppy known as Justice.

In an affidavit released Thursday, a man identified as Little "R" is mentioned by a witness as the person who threw the lit cigarette on the dog after it was doused with lighter fluid.

Justice survived the fire, but was later euthanized after caretakers said he'd taken a turn for the worse and wasn't going to recover from the burns that covered 70 percent of his body.

Two other witnesses are also mentioned in the affidavit. All three witnesses reported Darius Ewing put lighter fluid on the dog on April 4.

Ewing eventually turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

At last check, Ewing was still being held on $50,000 bond. Animal cruelty is a felony. If convicted, Ewing faces two to 10 years in prison.
