Abilene Woman Charged With Striking Man in the Neck With an Ax

A grand jury in Abilene has indicted a 32-year-old woman on aggravated assault charges after prosecutors say she attacked a man with an ax.

The unidentified victim told authorities Crystal Dawn Whitley was at his home the night of March 2, handling some swords he keeps there, when she picked up an ax that also was nearby and hit him in the neck.

The victim's roommate was in another room and told investigators he heard the attack, grabbed the ax from Whitley and she left.

But he told authorities the Abilene woman later returned and started hitting the wounded man with a sledgehammer. Police arrested her after a brief struggle.

The victim was hospitalized in critical condition and survived.

The Abilene Reporter-News reports (http://bit.ly/1HPZszw ) Whitley remains jailed under $30,000 bond.
