Wind Blows Paraplane Into Power Lines

A Tarrant County man had to be rescued from the top of some power lines on Sunday afternoon.

The man wrapped his paraplane around the power lines near the Pecan Valley Golf Course shortly before 1 p.m.

A paraplane is a parachute with a motor and wheels.

The man told rescuers the wind blew him into the power lines, said Mike Ford, a Benbrook Fire Department spokesman.

"He said when he got up about 15, or 20 or 30 feet above the ground, the south wind got a hold of his parachute somehow and took him over to the power lines just behind us, and wrapped him around the top strands of that power line," Ford said.

Jennifer Cox, who snapped a picture with her cell phone, said the man was hanging out of his seat.

TXU shut off the power in the area for a short time, but everything was back to normal later Sunday.
