Vandals Go On Tire-Slashing Rampage in North Dallas

North Dallas drivers said they were stunned and angry after they were victimized in a tire-slashing rampage through several parking lots.

Investigators said vandals tore through the parking lots, puncturing tires -- sometimes slashing all four of a single vehicle's tires. Police said at least six drivers in far north Dallas had their tires slashed Monday night.

"This took place in a matter of a few hours in a relatively small part of Dallas," Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse said. "We're looking at two or three square blocks."

Police received several reports from parking lots at businesses near Beltline and Preston roads. Incidents were reported at Wal-Mart, Industry Bar and Studio Movie Grill.

"I go and see a movie that turns out to not be that good and come out from that and find all four of my tires have been slashed," Keaton Dunker, 22, said.

It was a costly blow for the struggling college student.

"Including the tow and the new tires, it was about $400," Dunker said.

Katie King spent hours waiting on a tow truck.

"I just bought new tires and now, two months later, someone is vandalizing your car for no apparent reason," she said.

Police said they're reviewing surveillance video from Wal-Mart but said an arrest is unlikely.

"Unfortunately, this is a property crime," Janse said. "We may never find these guys unless someone comes forward."
