Two Men Robbed While Waiting for New iPhone in Houston

It was a scary situation for men sleeping outside of a Houston, Texas cell phone store waiting for the new iPhones. The men were awoken early Friday morning by several armed men standing over them. They got away the phones and credit cards. (Published Friday, Sept. 20, 2013)

Two people in Houston are getting an assist from an AT&T Store where they had their old iPhones stolen while waiting for their new ones.

The men were in line around at 4 a.m. Friday at the west Houston store, waiting for the new iPhone model, when they were approached by armed men who stood over them and demanded their phones and wallets.

"The only thing I saw, I looked down, I saw the gun," one of the victims who asked not to be identified told KPRC-TV.

The Houston Chronicle reports that the men told police the robbers appeared to be about 20 years old.

"Wait for a phone and spend their money, but someone comes to take their money. It's crazy," said the victim. "I didn't really need a phone then, I just wanted to upgrade. Now I really need a phone because I have no phone."

They stayed in line. When the store opened, they got their new iPhones -- with credit for the phones that were stolen.

AT&T spokesman Fletcher Cook confirmed the two men received the credit under a program allowing customers to upgrade to new phone models at a discount.

A store employee told KPRC they usually have security during new product launches, but this time they did not.

The victims said when they called to cancel their stolen credit cards the thief had already tried to use them.
