Texas Fourth Graders Sell Pet Rocks to Help Firefighters

A fourth grade class in South Texas has sold decorated pet rocks as part of an economics project to benefit local firefighters.

Students at South Knoll Elementary School chose to sell the geological pals after hearing about Pet Rock creator Gary Dahl, who reportedly reached millionaire status from the toy.

The Eagle reports one student attached a leash to a rock so it could go on a walk with its future owner. Another rock was painted like a penguin.

Students also produced commercials to market their product. They sold the rocks for a dollar and raised $75 to purchase everyday items like pens and snacks for the firefighters.

The students presented their gifts Monday and recited a poem for Station 2 of the College Station Fire Department.
