Tanker Truck Explosion Downtown Dallas

Black smoke hung over much of downtown Dallas after a tanker truck caught fire on Sunday evening.

Dallas police said an 18-wheeler tanker truck carrying gasoline caught fire after it collided with the retainer wall on eastbound U.S. 175 at Bexar Street in the southeast edge of downtown Dallas at about 4:30 p.m.

The driver of the truck was transported to a local hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

There were no other injuries in the crash.

The fire department said a hazardous materials team was dispatched to the fire.

Police said the Texas Department of Transportation was called to check on the condition of the overhead bridge.

The eastbound portion of freeway was closed in the area of the fire.
