Sex Offender Allegedly Broke Into LeTourneau Dorm

Students help catch man trying to take photos

A convicted sex offender has been accused of breaking into a college dormitory in East Texas and trying to take photos.

The Gregg County Sheriff's Office said 51-year-old Robert Roy Saurenmann III of Kilgore was jailed Monday on a charge of burglary of a habitation. No attorney was listed for Saurenmann, who was arrested Saturday afternoon.

The Longview News-Journal reports students at LeTourneau University in Longview helped catch the suspect. Nobody at Tyler Residence Hall was hurt.

Sgt. James Bettis said police want to know what Saurenmann allegedly wanted to photograph.

Saurenmann in 2001 was convicted of indecency with a child and served six years in prison.

Kilgore police last month arrested Saurenmann on a charge of indecent exposure. He was freed on $1,000 bond.
