Report: Man Accused In “Exorcism” Of Toddler Should Have Been In Jail

An East Texas newspaper says a 19-year-old man should have been behind bars but instead -- through a series of legal missteps -- was free when a 13-month-old toddler was murdered this week.

The Tyler Morning Telegraph reports Blaine Milam -- as part of a condition of probation for a second-degree felony -- had been sentenced to serve 180 days in jail.

Milam and 18-year-old Jessica Carson were arrested Tuesday and face capital murder charges for allegedly beating to death Carson's 13-month-old toddler during an "exorcism." Investigators think the couple used a hammer to "beat the demons out" of her.

Authorities said the toddler, Amora Bain Carson, was also bitten more than 20 times.

They are jailed in lieu of a $2 million bond for each. If the sentence he was given in August had been followed -- Milam was scheduled to be behind bars until February.

Officials also confirmed that Milam had failed to register as a sex offender in Rusk County and had not changed his previous address from Longview.
