Prime Prep Students Must Find New Schools

State education officials will help 3,000 students find new schools after a school co-founded by Deion Sanders closed Friday. (Published Monday, Feb. 2, 2015)

Nearly 300 students must find a new school after Prime Prep Academy, co-founded by NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, closed Friday.

The Texas Education Agency shut down the school because it did not have enough money to make it through the school year. TEA officials said this could have been avoided if school officials had acknowledged their financial problems earlier.

The displaced students can choose another charter school or a school in the Dallas or Fort Worth independent school districts. TEA has provided transition information, including details on enrollment opportunities at area schools for the rest of this term.

With a total of fewer than 300 students, enrollment at Prime Prep was down 50 percent this school year.
