Houston police say a man exchanged gunfire with an officer before stealing his patrol car and crashing into a tree.
A hotel manager alerted the officer on Wednesday to a man in the parking lot who wasn't supposed to be there. Houston police identified the officer as C. Massey to the Houston Chronicle.
Police said the man and Massey exchanged gunfire before the man stole Massey's car. Officers chased the squad car for about 10 minutes before the suspect crashed into a tree.
His identity has not been released. He faces charges including aggravated assault of a public servant and evading arrest.
No injuries were reported.
