Becky and Allen Pilgrim, a North Texas couple, say the attention their last name draws never ends.
Like the John Wayne line, "Hey, pilgrim!" They've probably heard that one a thousand times.
Then there are the jokes about hats and shoes; and in Texas, Pilgrim's Pride chicken provides an endless source of puns.
"We're pretty good sports about it," Becky Pilgrim said.
Her husband, of course, has been a Pilgrim his whole life.
"Kids can be pretty cruel," he said.
Now he loves having the name because business colleagues remember it.
"You very rarely hear Allen. It's always Pilgrim this, and Pilgrim that," he explained.
His wife is an elementary school teacher, and said she always has a lot of explaining to do at this time of year.
"The children assume I came over on the Mayflower," she said with a smile.
There's one other thing that makes Thanksgiving extra special for Becky and Allen. It's their wedding anniversary.
Becky swears they didn't plan it that way. But it's perfect for Allen, who says, "I'm never going to forget my wedding anniversary!"
