Parkland Has New, Temporary Leadership

Retied surgeon to lead hospital for six months

Dr. Thomas C. Royer, a retired surgeon and founder of Christus Health, will take over as the interim CEO of Parkland Memorial Hospital on Thursday.

The troubled Dallas County hospital has been ordered by the government to correct violations where patients were put in "immediate jeopardy."

Royer, who said he will not seek the job permanently, is being offered a six-month contract worth $303,000, the Dallas Morning News reports. Royer, 70, is replacing Dr. Ron Anderson who was the hospital's president for 29 years.

Anderson will serve as an adviser for 1 year.
