Following the shooting, SWAT officers were called to the scene, only to be cleared at about 2:30 p.m. without making an arrest.  Meanwhile, police are staying mum as part of the neighborhood remains sectioned off during the ongoing investigation.

Arlington police said the officer, whose name will not be released because he works in a covert capacity, was shot along the 2700 block of Wilbur Street at about 6:15 a.m. while trying to make an arrest with the task force.

Officers drove the victim to a gas station near the intersection of Hampton and Wheatland roads to await an ambulance, according to Arlington Police Department spokesman Lt. Christopher Cook. The officer was then transported to a hospital.

"Our officer is assigned to a federal task force made up of other jurisdictions and he remains in a Dallas Hospital recovering. He is surrounded by family and friends and is in good spirits," said Cook.

Officials have not confirmed who the task force was trying to arrest at the time or who shot the officer.
