The Texas Department of State Health Services said six of the 486 recent cases of salmonella nationwide are in Texas.
The known outbreaks were reported in Tarrant, Galveston, Harris, Travis and Willacy counties. There are two in Tarrant County, the agency said this week.
The bacterial illness has been reported in 43 states since September.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other health agencies continue to investigate the outbreak. Health officials say exposures to peanut butter and other peanut butter-containing products are the likely cause.
