Motorcyclist in Custody After Late-Night Chase

The chase started in Richardson and ended in Irving

A late-night, high-speed chase led state troopers through Richardson, Dallas and Irving Thursday night.

The chase started in Richardson when Department of Public Safety troopers attempted to stop a group of motorcyclists traveling at high speeds along the George Bush Turnpike and Sam Rayburn Tollway at about 11 p.m., authorities said.

The entire group fled troopers and a pursuit continued through Dallas, troopers said.

The DPS helicopter hovered over the chase and estimated that speeds reached up to 150 mph.

DPS said patrol vehicles were not able to keep up with all the motorcyclists because of the dangers associated with traveling at such high speeds.

A trooper was able to stop one motorcyclist, whose name has not been released, at state Highway 183 and O’Connor. The motorcyclist turned westbound on Interstate 30 into Dallas, north on I-35 and exited at Northwest Highway.

He then drove into Irving and slowed to a normal speed.  A trooper quickly pulled the motorcyclist over and took him into custody, authorities said.

The motorcyclist’s license place, which is supposed to be displayed at all times, had a hinge type device on it that could be used to avoid identification.

Authorities said he could face multiple charges.
