A consultant who was found guilty along with a former Texas state senator of operating a Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors out of millions has been sentenced to more than five years in prison.
Gary Cain, who worked for now-defunct FourWinds Logistics, was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in San Antonio.
He was found guilty in February along with former state Sen. Carlos Uresti, a Democrat, of several charges that included conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
Cain also was ordered to pay $6.3 million in restitution.
Uresti, who was ordered to pay the same amount, was sentenced to 12 years in prison. He resigned from office earlier this month.
FourWinds was a fracking sand company that went bankrupt in 2015.
