Man Dies After Shot While Driving in Lewisville

The man shot Tuesday night in Lewisville while driving to work has died, his son said Friday evening.

Scott Johansen was shot at about 10:30 p.m. in the 200 block of southbound Interstate 35E while on his way to Comfort Inn in Frisco, where he was the overnight manager.

Witnesses reported seeing the driver of a small SUV shooting at another driver on the service road, who then crossed over the grass and hit the center guardrail on the highway.

While police were investigating the shooting, they received reports of an armed man threatening customers at a convenience store on the 100 block of East Corporate. As the man left the store, the clerk noted his license plate.

Officers were able to trace the plate to a home on the 2300 block of San Jacinto Drive where they spotted a person matching the witnesses description of the man at the convenience store.

That man, 53-year-old Stephen Bielicke, talked with officers while in his garage. He admitted to having a gun in his car but refused to let officers see it. An arrest and search warrant was obtained and Bielicke was taken into custody and his car was searched.

Inside officers found a semi-automatic firearm and ammunition that matched the shell casings found at the scene of the highway shooting.

Bielicke was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault and carrying a weapon where alcohol is sold.

He remains in custody in the Denton County Jail and will now be charged with murder.

Investigators said it appears that Bielicke visited several convenience stores where he called and threatened his ex-wife from payphones while trying to initiate a fight with strangers.

Investigators later determined Johansen had been at a convenience store on the 1700 block of state Highway 121 Business moments before the shooting, where witnesses observed Bielicke screaming at him.

Police do not believe that Johansen knew Bielicke or did anything to get his attention.

In a statement released Friday via Baylor Medical Center, Johansen's son, Anthony Johansen, said, in part:

"My father, Scott Johansen, passed away earlier this evening from the injuries he sustained in Tuesday's shooting. Our family is heartbroken over his loss and by this senseless attack. We would like to thank the Lewisville Police Department for their hard work, along with the first responders who came to my father's aid. He leaves behind a wife, two children and three young grandchildren. We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers from the community, but our family would appreciate if you would respect our privacy at this time."
