Some Lubbock-area homeowners have no running water as cotton farmers irrigate their fields in the midst of a years long dry spell.
The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports Sunday this is the fifth year some two dozen homeowners north of Lubbock lose water when cotton farmers irrigate their fields.
Resident Nancy Hubbard says there is no water in her well, and any water that gets to her home is carried in buckets.
Water expert Jim Conkwright says the farmers aren't breaking any rules. They simply have deeper wells and the water naturally migrates to the deepest areas.
Residents in this area rely on the Ogallala Aquifer for their water, an underground stream that recharges slowly and is stressed by years of drought and overuse in some areas of Texas.
