Lone Star Park Celebrates the Kentucky Derby

Lone Star Park will be hosting several events this weekend for the Kentucky Derby.

Saturday

  • Live Thoroughbred Racing: 10 live races are scheduled. The gates open at 10:30 a.m. and the first race post time is 1:35 p.m. General admission is $5 and there will be free parking. Bar & Book opens at 9 a.m.
  • Kentucky Derby Simulcast: Participants can watch and place bets on the 141st Kentucky Derby which begins at 5:40 p.m.
  • Kentucky Derby Hat Contest: Participants can wear their best hates for the hat contest. There will be two grand prizes for "The Most Stylish" and "The Most Creative" hats. Both winners will receive $500. Three additional hats will receive honorable mention prizes. Judging begins at 3 p.m. in the Courtyard of Champions.
  • Live Music: Deja Groove will be performing at the Courtyard of Champions Stage between races from noon to 5 p.m.
  • Family Fun Park: There will be kid's activities including bounce houses, pony rides and a petting zoo starting at 11:30 a.m.
  • PPV Fight of the Century: The Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight will be shown at the Bar & Book.

Sunday

  • Live Thoroughbred Racing: Nine races are scheduled, gates open at 11:30 a.m. and races begin at 1:35 p.m.
  • Sunday Brunch Buffet in Silks: There will be a brunch buffet in the new Silks Dining room from 11:30 until the end of the sixth race.
  • Senior Citizens' Day: Seniors 62 years old or older will receive one free general admission every Sunday during the Spring of 2015 Thoroughbred Season.
  • Military Discount Day: With a Military ID, people can receive one free general admission.
  • Pepsi Can Offer: Participants can bring a Pepsi can on any Sunday to receive a Pepsi tack pack, one free general admission and one free large Pepsi.
