Judge Denies New Trial for Lamb of God; Appeal or Euthanasia is Next

Dog, deemed to be a dangerous animal, may be put down as early as Thursday morning

The fate of a dog deemed to be dangerous after its third confirmed bite within the last year looks grim after a judge refused to give the yellow Labrador a new trial.

Lamb of God, known as ‘Lamby’, is a lab mix that is often seen around Dallas dressed up in sunglasses or a cowboy hat in an attempt by its owner, a homeless man, to get people to pay to pose for pictures.

Last month Lamby bit a child in the parking lot of an Oak Cliff gas station and it was later taken into custody by Dallas Animal Services.

The dog was set to be euthanized last Friday, but some last-minute legal maneuvering on behalf of a group of concerned citizens put the process on hold.

On Tuesday, Judge Michael Acuna refused a new hearing, he didn't give a reason for denying the motion for reconsideration and only gave the dog a 48-hour stay of execution.

Attorneys filed an appeal Tuesday afternoon and are asking for a temporary restraining order, but city attorneys say unless they are informed otherwise, Dallas Animal Services is authorized to euthanize Lamby as early as 8:57 a.m. Thursday.
