Infant Shot; Police Search for Gunman

An 11-month-old child is at Children's Medical Center Dallas after he was shot early Monday morning, Dallas police said.

Officers on the scene were still gathering information at 7 a.m. Monda, but investigators said someone called 911 after a minivan filled with children was hit by gunfire near Cheyenne Road and Bruton Road just before midnight late Sunday night.

The driver of that van sped away to Malcolm X Blvd and Pennsylvania Ave before calling for help.

As the woman pulled her kids out from the vehicle to check on them, she realized her baby boy had a grazing gunshot wound to the leg.  The child is expected to survive, and was listed in good condition.

Two other boys-- a four-year-old and a three-year-old-- were not injured.  A male passenger sitting in the front passenger's seat was also not injured.

Police believe the man who fired at the van was an acquaintance of the mother.

The woman’s van had the left driver’s window blown out, two bullet holes in the driver’s door and another in the left sliding door.

Police are looking for the suspect in a maroon four-door Dodge car.

There will be four aggravated assault charges and one charge of injury to a child filed once an arrest is made.
