Houston Police Officer Struck by Vehicle

A Houston police officer is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while serving a warrant Wednesday morning.

Officers had pulled over a vehicle reported as stolen to the side of Highway 59, on the city's southwest side, and surrounded it when a passing vehicle struck one of the officers.

The injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital with serious head injuries, KPRC reported. The officer was last listed in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the officer pulled over and was detained for questioning. The 79-year-old driver was later charged with intoxication assault on a police officer, HPD Chief Art Acevedo told KPRC.

No further details were released.
