Some Leavenworth County, Kansas, officials are calling for Commissioner Louis Klemp's resignation after he insulted a black woman who had just presented a land-use study to the commission. "I don't want you to think I am picking on you because we are part of the master race. You have a gap in your teeth. We are part of the master race, don't you forget that," Klemp said.

"Fearing for their life," according to a press release, the officers opened fire, striking the man twice.

Both officers attempted to back out of the way before opening fire, according to the release.

The man then took off, but pulled over in a parking lot a short distance away.

After the driver surrendered, officers discovered two children in the backseat.

The driver was arrested and is expected to be okay. Neither the officers or the children were hurt in the shooting.

Police say their investigation has led them to believe Irwin was under the influence at the time of the incident.

He will be transported to jail and charged with Aggravated Assault, two counts of Endagering a Child, Evading Arrest and a DWI, upon his release from the hospital, according to police.

Both officers involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave, according to police.
