Fire Destroys Part Of An Old McKinney Building

McKinney firefighters investigate early morning fire

A fire destroyed part of a McKinney shopping strip early Monday morning. It happened in the 800 block of Tennessee Street just after 4:30 a.m.

Firefighters said the fire was fully involved when they arrived, so they had to fight it from the outside.

Several walls on the north side of the building collapsed as it burned, but no one was injured. Firefighters said that part of the structure was a total loss, but the south side only sustained minor damage.

Tres Amigos restaurant and a few other local small businesses were destroyed in the fire.

"The building originally was a bakery back in the old days and there's been add-ons to it. It has multiple tenants in there and it's all retail space," said McKinney Fire Training Chief Ron Moore.

Neighbor Amanda McDonald said the fire was not only seen, but also felt.

"It was hot, it was freezing outside but we could totally feel the heat from the fire," McDonald said.

Fire investigators are still trying to figure out the cause of that fire.
