Extra Security Added in Oak Lawn Area After Attacks

Dallas City Councilman Adam Medrano says Dallas police have added patrols in the Oak Lawn community after a series of attacks.

“In recent weeks we have increased police patrols and there are undercover officers in the area,” Medrano told NBC 5.

According to Dallas police reports, another man was attacked Friday night, this time in the 4500 block of Hartford Street.

Officers said the victim was hit in the back of the head with a gun, then robbed at gunpoint.

Medrano and Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings' LGBT Task Force will hold a community meeting Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Resource Center to discuss the recent attacks in the area.

Medrano is urging concerned citizens to attend the meeting, not only for information about what’s being done to safeguard the community, but also to learn how to join the Mayor’s LGBT Task Force.

The meeting is just days before one of the busiest nights in Oak Lawn - the annual Halloween Block Party on Cedar Springs Road.

There’s also an online petition to make Oak Lawn safer. It calls for more lights on Cedar Springs Road and on nearby cross streets.

Medrano said he’s been made aware of some of the areas that lacked sufficient lighting. He said many of those areas were the result of ONCOR outages, which he says will be corrected by Tuesday night.
