DNA In Dog Feces Links Man To Rape

Rufus Sito Nanez III denied attacking an Amarillo area woman in September of 2007 during his three-day trial, but jurors only needed 45 minutes to convict him in the home-invasion rape.

The key pieces of evidence were DNA samples from the woman's dog, which matched DNA in the feces found on the rapist's shirt.

The samples were sent to the University of California, Davis, for expert DNA testing before the trial began.

Nanez is now sentenced to three life sentences for the attack; a harsh sentence likely imposed due to previous parole violations and convictions.
