Curio Grenade Prompts School Evacuation

School evacuated after device shown to teacher.

An elementary school in Euless was evacuated Thursday after a student brought a deactivated hand grenade on campus.

The 7-year-old student walked into his classroom at Oakwood Terrace Elementary just before 9 a.m. and showed the grenade to his teacher, police said.

The teacher, who wasn't sure if the device was real, took the grenade to administrators who notified the police.

While officials investigated the device, the school was evacuated.

The grenade was found to have a hole in the bottom where the explosive charge and other components had been removed.

According to police, the child said he got the curio from his uncle.

Officials said there was no criminal intent and no charges will be filed.
