Celina Outlaws Panhandling

The city of Celina hopes a new ordinance stops panhandling.

The city voted last week to ban anyone from soliciting money on public streets, saying panhandlers at intersections increase the risk of someone being hurt in a crash.

Celina's proclamation is more strict than one imposed in Dallas which prohibits panhandling at night and anytime near banks, ATMs, pay telephones, car washes, gas stations and bus stops.  It is also illegal to panhandle in high traffic tourist areas such as downtown, uptown, Deep Ellum, etc.

Like in Dallas, violators in Celina could face a $500 fine.
