Mesquite firefighters battled a two-alarm fire at a church on Monday afternoon.
A passer-by called the fire department after seeing smoke and flames coming from the Eastridge Park Methodist Church in the 2100 block of Motley Drive.
Firefighters found the building on fire when they arrived. About two dozen firefighters battled the flames for half an hour before bringing the fire under control.
Chopper 5 saw visible damage to the roof and wall when it arrived at 1:15 p.m.
The church's main sanctuary is a total loss.
"It's very sad," said Mark Mills, the pastor. "It's very emotional. This is my first ministry, my first pastorate, and we have a lot of memories in here."
Eastridge Park Methodist Church has been in Mesquite since 1965.
