18-Hour Drum-A-Thon Drums Up Cash

Students at McKinney Boyd High School in McKinney are holding a 18-hour Drum-A-Thon to raise money for percussion equipment, supplies, and travel costs for the entire Bronco band to perform and compete in other cities and states.

About two dozen percussionists and their director are providing free entertainment to anyone who goes by the school cafeteria Saturday from 6 a.m. to midnight. They're playing drums, marimbas, snares, cymbals, and other instruments.

Anyone who donates $100 or more will be listed on this year's "Drumline" shirt worn by the percussionists, other students, and fans.

"We're rotating. We're taking turns. We have a couple of Frisbees and X-boxes we play during our breaks and some good snacks, so we're doing great and we're supporting each other well," said Chris Armstrong, percussion captain and senior.
