Dallas police say road rage was behind a shooting that left one man dead and another man in custody Thursday afternoon.

In a statement to NBC 5, Dallas police said officers were called at about 2:30 p.m. to the Central Expressway service road at Forest Lane. Officers learned a road rage incident occurred there, which led to a man being shot and killed.

One person was in custody in connection with the shooting. He was identified Friday as 34-year-old Isaias Perez and faces a charge of murder, police said. A bond amount has not been set as of this writing.

Police did not name the man who died. He was 37 years old.

Bystander, William Lee works nearby and said he heard the commotion.

"I was walking to repark my car. And I heard pop, pop, pop," said Lee.

What he’d heard was going on just a couple hundred yards away and involved the drivers of a black pickup truck and white Dergano.

At some point, after the two men exited at Forest Lane, witnesses said the men got out of their vehicles, shooting at one another.

"I heard boom boom boom. So, I looked and I turned back around and I noticed he was laying on the ground. I saw him when he jumped out the truck," said bystander, Merel Griffin.

Griffin said he told other bystanders to take photos of the license plates while hoping no one else would get hurt.

Dallas police are investigating whether road rage was behind a shooting that left one person dead Thursday afternoon.

"I was in fear for my life," he said. "I was in fear for other folks’ life too that were around."

For hours, police closed off the intersection of 75 and Forest Lane while inspecting the vehicles, both riddled with bullet holes.

Police have not yet released additional details about what led up to the shooting or the names of those involved.

The investigation is ongoing and preliminary information is limited, police said.
