Plano Offers RX Drug Discount Cards

Some cry socialism

The City of Plano, in partnership with the National League of Cities (NCL), wants to help people save money on burdensome prescription costs.

The city will make free prescription drug cards available to residents that will allow them to save an average of 20 percent. Anybody can take advantage of the card program regardless of age, income level or existing health coverage.

About 40 pharmacies around the city will accept the card, as well as more than 59,000 across the nation, including CVS, Costco, Sam’s Club, Target, Walgreen and Wal-mart.

Residents of Plano can avail themselves of the cards at libraries, recreation centers and the Plano Municipal Center (city hall).

β€œIn the current economic climate, where many people are watching what they spend, the NLC prescription discount card will offer significant savings on the purchase of prescription medications for our residents,” said Plano Director of Health Brian Collins.

Residents of Dallas and surrounding areas will just have to wait and see if their city councils take up the issue, and if they do, whether it will be opposed by people such as this author, who smells a whiff of socialism behind the program.
