National figures show stronger seasonal hiring to support the holiday shopping season than in two previous years.
A review of figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Stastics by a consulting firmfound 150,900 new retail jobs in Oct., 2010. This is more than twice the amount of the two previous years combined.
Incentives are available this year for employers who hire people who have been unemployed 60 days or more.
"This is the government’s way of encouraging employers to attack that double digit unemployment," said labor attorney Audrey Mross with the Dallas office of law firm Munck Carter.
Mross said the law provides employers a 6.2 percent reduction of employer taxes for new hires who have been unemployed at least 60 days.
The law offers employers a $1000 bonus if that new hire stays employed for a year or more.
The law applies only to employees hired before Dec. 31, 2010, but Mross said members of congress are considering an extension.
