Dallas-based Southwest Airlines has one and now, finally, Fort Worth-based American Airlines has released their own iPhone app.
American’s app, like Southwest's, allows on-the-go customers to check-in from their phone. That is a must-have feature. But, AA's app also lets passengers monitor the standby list, track elite status, view terminal maps and even play Sudoku.
The app also allows travelers to have a mobile boarding pass right on their phone. That, along with the flight status notifications, are two of the apps cooler features. Highlights of Southwest's app are fare sale alerts and a quick link to car rentals.
Of course, like Southwest's app, it's very easy to search flight schedules and book a ticket. Which I actually did in about five minutes while filling my gas tank. It's incredibly quick and easy. Though, I will say, Southwest needs to update their graphics to retina display -- they look fuzzy on the iPhone 4.
To find the free app, go to the App Store and search "American Airlines" or "Southwest Airlines."
