Human remains believed to be of a woman were found Tuesday afternoon in a wooded area in Euless, police said.
Investigators said the body appeared to have been there for months or even years.
"It's in an advanced stage of decomposition," said Lt. John Williams, a Euless police spokesman.
The discovery was made in the 900 block of Bear Creek Parkway.
Police planned to guard the scene Tuesday night so crime scene investigators could begin work in the morning.
A backpack was found near the body which could help identify the victim, Williams said.
