Wynnewood Village Renovation Underway With LA Fitness, Raising Cane's Opening Later This Year

Long awaited construction is underway at Oak Cliff's Wynnewood Village.Much of the work now on the shopping center built in 1949 is to improve storm drainage and prevent flooding. The city of Dallas approved $1.73 million to complete the work at Wynnewood, which is located just west of I-35 off on Illinois Avenue, from a 2017 bond election.The concrete slab has been poured for the 34,000-square-foot LA Fitness. Raising Cane's is a newly signed lease. But the Maya Cinemas theater announced last year still has no construction start date. LA Fitness, which is being built on the site of an old office building that was torn down, is expected to be completed by year end, said Matthew Berger, president at Brixmor Property Group.The city's work is also expected to be done this year, he said.Brixmor is spending $21 million to upgrade the center and add the two big tenants. The 14-screen movie theater will be ready sometime in 2020, he said, but probably in the second half of the year. "Theaters take longer to build," he said.  Continue reading...
