With Long List of Candidates, Democrats Hope to Break GOP Grip in Collin, Denton, Rockwall Counties

It's too early to say whether 2018 will be the year Democrats break through the Republican stronghold at the county level in North Texas. But the party has increased its chances with a larger-than-usual number of Democratic candidates. While Democrats dominate in Dallas County, Republicans hold every county-level office in surrounding Collin, Denton and Rockwall counties — from county judge to district clerk to justices of the peace. Most county-level elected officials in Tarrant and Ellis are Republican, too.
