Dallas’ Old Red Courthouse — a downtown skyline icon — kicked off 2019 veiled in scaffolding.That’s because Old Red, as the landmark is affectionately known, will get work done to restore its movie-star looks.The castle-like courthouse — a 126-year-old dame of a building made of red sandstone and granite — hasn’t had a roof repair since the late 1980s. So Dallas County has hired a contractor to get the deteriorating slate top fixed at a cost of $3.4 million.County officials also enlisted a firm to ensure that construction on the historic building meets the standards of the Texas Historical Commission.
